Alice Smith School

The private school consists of Primary and Secondary Level.

PRIMARY SCHOOL
The Primary Campus caters for children from Pre-school to Year 6 (3 – 11 years old) and we have around 770 children on our well resourced site where we follow the English National Curriculum and offer a wide range of co-curricular activities.

The Primary Campus is overseen by the Principal, Kate Fuller and 3 Assistant Principals, Alison Nadarajah (Pastoral), Marcus Sherwood (Curriculum) and Edward Pearce (Leadership and Management). Each Assistant Principal has responsibilities for specific curriculum and guidance areas of the school as well as for cross campus topics with the Secondary Campus at Equine Park.

We have two Pre-school classes, five parallel Reception classes and five parallel classes per year group from Year 1 to Year 6, all of which have a maximum number of 22 children per class. Specialist staff develop the children’s skills in ICT, Music, Art, Physical Education and Modern Foreign Languages as well as offering support and extension where appropriate.

SECONDARY SCHOOL

The Secondary Campus at Equine Park is situated on expansive grounds and caters for approximately 700 students in Years 7 to 13 (between the ages of 11 and 18). There are five form classes in each year level from Year 7 to 11 with between 100 to 120 students in a year group. There are currently approximately 120 students in the Sixth Form with about 60 students in each year level. Maximum class size is 24 in Key Stages 3 and 4, with many optional subjects in the upper school have much smaller teacher-student ratios.

The English National Curriculum is followed in Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9) with provision for additional language studies and some optional courses in Year 9. Students choose two foreign languages from French, German, Spanish, Malay and Mandarin).

In Key Stage 4 (years 10 and 11), students are prepared to take external examinations in International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) courses and some GCSE courses with examining boards such as Edexcel and OCR. A broad range of optional subjects is available, with excellent provision for studies in the visual and performing arts, media and design technology as well as the more traditional languages, mathematics and sciences.

Post-16 provision follows the AQA Baccalaureate programme of study, with students selecting four AS courses in Year 12 and undertaking the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), an additional AS qualification in Critical thinking and completing a minimum of 100 hours of Enrichment over the 2-year period leading to graduation. The AQA Baccalaureate combines elements of a traditional A-level programme with additional core elements similar to those of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

In addition to the formal curriculum, there is a wide and diverse extra-curricular programme, including a comprehensive annual competitive sports calendar.

Alice Smith School graduates go on to study at high quality universities in the UK, but also in Australia and other destinations.

The Secondary Campus is overseen by a leadership team consisting of the Principal and three Assistant Principals.
